Don’s thoughts on 2009 classes...
Aspiring Innkeeper’s, we missed you in 2009. I know that
you would have enjoyed being with us at one of the three ’09
classes. Each class contained an enthusiastic group of people who
were anxious to learn all about Innkeeping – and have fun while
doing it!
We started the ’09 classes on the mid-coast
of Maine at the Newcastle Inn. Julie Bolthuis, the new owner of
the Inn, could not have been more gracious and informative.
Julie’s past Innkeeping experience lent itself to beautifully to
the many questions posed by the class. In conjunction with our
classroom activities, the class went on the road to visit a
variety of Inns. We also to had a Q&A session with some new
and some seasoned Innkeepers; always a popular part of the class.
Over the Labor Day weekend, we held our 2nd
class of ’09 at the Brewster House Inn in Freeport, Maine.
Innkeepers, Scott and Ruth Thomas created a wonderful hospitable
atmosphere for learning. A great group of aspiring innkeepers
enjoyed a new approach to learning about Innkeeping.
On Sunday of the Labor Day weekend, we traveled
to a distinctive home located on a lake in the center of Maine.
The home is called The Cottage at Clearview Farm and is part of
the Woolworth estate. After a lakeside picnic, the class divided
into teams and each team went their separate way to make decisions
on how the property could be turned into an Inn. It definitely is
a property waiting to happen and the class came up with some
extraordinary “Inn” ideas. The class felt that it was a
terrific learning experience while enjoying the atmosphere of a
remarkable home.
The last Inn Your Dreams class of ’09 was
held at the Blue Hill Inn in the beautiful coastal town of Blue
Hill, Maine. As many of the people in the class commented, it was
the perfect atmosphere for learning about Innkeeping:
A beautiful and cozy 18th century Inn, perfect
fall weather, and autumn colors all around. On top of this, Sarah
Pebworth and her staff presented a true example of what
exceptional Innkeeping is all about.
We hope that you will be able to join us in
2010.
